It could be because of many things like lack of calcium and iodine. Also maybe it's getting overexposure to light. All these things are important for coralline to grow.
ok so is there anyway to restore my rock to any extent? i have my light on 8 and a half hours a day. Thanks
New tank. The rock will have die of, and will whiten up, but dont fret. The rock will come back all colorful in the right conditions. How long has the tank been set up? What are your water readings?
I have had the tank for a few years but about a month ago I took out my crushed coral and added live sand and basically started over. My readings are; Salinity: 1.025 PH: 8.43 Nitrite: .1 Nitrate: .2 and total ammonia: .01. I hope these are what your talking about haha. Thanks again.

OK great thanks for your help. About how long should it take to begin to grow back?
what would you consider normal? No PH nitrite or ammonia?
Well, pretty much yea. But your Calcium and ALK in line does help alot.
