    Chiloscyllium Punctatum (banded cat shark)

I've been reading up on the species for a good few months now and read nearly as much I found on the Chiloscyllium Punctatum ( Banded cat shark), I just wanted some input on a size tank for it, i know minimum for this is 180 gallons what I'm confused about is that when they say 180 gallons is that including the sump or without?? And say as an example 180 gallons is 6ft x 2ft x 2ft aquarium, could I get away with say 5ft x 2ft x 1ft because although it say min is 180 it doesn't say what size tank it would be happy in I.e 10ft, 8ft size tank if you get where I'm coming from. Does it need depth to the tank aswell as length?? I know that it needs ample room for turning around but haven't seen anything about if this shark needs depth.
It's not a reef safe fish apparently because of knocking rock and corals over, so in return how would the biological filtration work if you can really put live rock in there? Unless I could and bond the rock to each other. But saying that they do need the swimming space. Any help on this would be greatly appretiated before I go jump the gun on getting my tank made thanks

You should glue the rock scape together so it doens't get knocked over.
    HoldFast Epoxy Stick

You could keep it in your tank for a period of time. It will definately outgrow it of course, being as it gets over 3' long, but for starters that isn't going to be a problem. What they should tell you in the fish bio is how long the tank should be, not how many gallons you need. Most fish need the back and forth room, not the depth. But an 8'-9' tank is what you really need in the long run. But, the Bamboo shark doesn't do a whole lot.

Thanks bud, it doesn't state on most website sizes of the tank just say min of 180g, I've spoke to a place that delivers fish stock with over 40 years in the aquarium trade and seems to have good reviews, they have said it will be ok in a 3ft tank for a little while but will need upgrading after a year or so, I've seen that they are docile during the day and awake during the night.

Think I've been put of a little now with this shark I've just been watching some videos and reading some info and some one is saying its not the gallons that matters its the size of the tank ( which I think is more appropriate) then he goes on to say that the rule of thumb is 3x the length and 2x for the width so he say for this shark, 12ft x 8ft x 2ft deep tank ,Maybe I'll think On it a bit more because that is a ridiculous size tank,

Yea, wow. I'd say so. I'd have figured the 9' x 2' tank would have been enough.

That's what I'd of thought, I might take a while on this one and get every tying correct the first time round so won't need to upgrade at a later date, so less stress on the shark from being swapped around from tank to tank.
