    Coral placement

I guys, can someone provide me references to coral compatibility? I am looking for knowledge base where I could understand what type of corals can be placed close to each other. I have an elegance and torch placed close to each other. They seem to be ok. but what about placing a mushroom ? Are flowerpot coral and candy cane compatible?

    Plz advice. Cheers
    Sashi

Unfortunatley I think alot of placement is by trial and error. As a rule Euphilleads(hammer, anchor, frogspawn, etc) will co-exist pretty well but are aggressive to other non related corals like Blasso, lobo, etc.
The so called LPS employ sweeper tentacles equipt with various nemacyst stuctures to maintain their "zone" whereas most leather and other octocorals are more dependent on chemical weapons to maintin their space

I don't think there is a set chart. As RM pointed out, it's usually by trial and error. You can check out liveaquaria.com which will give a detailed synopsis of the corals needs. Based on your question, my flowerpot (when it was alive) didn't like anything touching it. Not even the fish...where as my torch and clown kind of hosted w/ the lack of an anemone. I would be careful with the gono. The candy canes are a little more tolerant of things. I have them literally touching my leathers/mushrooms and no worries. My zoas and my ricordea also touch each other. You might see some white edges of the mushrooms - that would indicate the coral is unhappy. Finally, I would be cautious with favia and favites and such too. Their tentacles will extend @ night and depending on flow / length / rate, would have to leave ample room.

    Just speaking from experience.

    HTH!
