    Cloudy water!

I've had my tank running for 9 months I did a water change yesterday. Everything is at level. I have an aquaC remora pro with a rio 1400 with a HOB refugium/protein skimmer. I came home about 2 hours later and noticed my water was a little bit cloudy. I thought it was my power head putting some substrate in the water so I adjusted it and went to sleep. When I woke up this morning it was still cloudy. I currently have no fish because I gave them to a friend because he started his tank. I was reading that it could be free-floating copepods and amphipods in the water. Also I usually keep my salinity at 1.021 but while doing the water change I raised it to 1.023 would that have any affect?

No, unless you did the water change and just threw in the salt afterwards. But it should have gone away in 24hrs though. How much Live Rock do you have in the tank? As far as free floating PODS, haven't heard that one before. What size tank? Are you running at least 10x your water for your poewrhead turnover rate?
One thing I know of that clouds the water is a Ammonia Bloom.

Nope I always let my RO/DI sit with a power head and a heater for a couple days then add the salt and let it sit for a while to make sure it dissolves then add all the water. That's what I was hoping for, i adjusted the power head and decided to go to sleep and woke up about 7:00am and it was still cloudy and I went to work and I came home around 1:00pm and it was still cloudy. I did all my water tests today again and everything is perfect. In my refugium I have feather caulerpa and I'm guessing it went sexual. My LFS told me it was one of the best but I guess not I was reading it becomes nuisance. So I took all of it out and I just bought some carbon filter pads so let's see if that will work. What algae for my refugium would you recommend? I also have one of the koralia 4 for my 40gal.

Thanks for your help! I thought it might be a bacteria bloom I lowered my collection cup on my two skimmers and bought some carbon filter pads and turned my light of an hour early and this morning I woke up and it's almost completely clear. I have some other questions I've been using seachem advantage calcium should I also be using seachem kalkwasser to maintain my calcium level?

Both are good products. Most would tell you they use Kalk for Calcium. I use Kent Liquid Calcium. How often do you have to dose? If its often, maybe a Reactor would be a good idea.

I usually dose one a week. I use 2 tsp which up it 20ppm. I'm guessing the kalkwasser has a direct effect on alkalinity. I know that seachem advantage calcium doesn't affect alkalinity directly. So I'm guessing that's the difference. I was using Kent marine chemicals but I found that seachem is a lot easier to dose, especially with the dose calculator app for iPhone makes it even easier. I was also looking at the advantage calcium and it has strontium and magnesium with the calcium. How often do you dose magnesium and stronium? Also what do you use to control your phosphates? I've been using Rowa Phos which lasts about 3-4 months because using the seachem phosphate beads you have to change them every 4 to 5 days.

I don't does anything but the CA and Phyto for the corals once inawhile. Phosphates are takin care of via Cheato in my HOB Fuge and I still Vodka Dose, unitl the Cheato takes over.

I see, definitely going to get some cheato tomorrow for the refugium. How does vodka dosing work? It seems a little confusing last time I was reading about it.

    Re: Cloudy water!

This is what I went by:
Vodka Dosing by 'Genetics' and 'Stony_Corals' - Reefkeeping.com
Now I did not exactly follow the instructions to the T, because my trates were way out of wack. So i was jumping 10ml at a time, not 1ml. I got as high as 40ml a day. I dosed 20ml in the morning and 20ml in the evening until the Trates came to 0, as they are now. I currently dose 18ml a day, 9ml in the am and 9ml in teh pm.
