55g set up in Sept. 2000 (FOWLR at the time), has been a reef tank since Feb. Currently only LPS and soft corals, but am looking to eventually add SPS and clams. I remember hearing some rule of thumb about 1/4" specks of corelline algae on the glass before adding SPS or clams. All water parameters are good and steady for about three months now. Powerheads and equipment covered with corelline (70lbs of LR covered since added 9/2000), some specks forming on glass (wall of CPR refugium covered with corelline). I have 4-110w VHO for 8 w/p/g, and my pair of skunk clowns and all coral and inverts are fat and sassy. Had only one casualty, toadstool leather died three weeks ago, no idea why. Am I ready for SPS and clams?

Well with out Metal Halides I would only suggest lower light sps's like some montipora's and deresa clams.
Its not as much the watts per gallon as the intensity of the light that really matters for sps and clams. my 2cents anyway. ------------------ Buy propigated corals Its never big enough |
