Question Refugium/Sump Question

Hi.
I was going to put a 20 gallon refugium under my stand, but there isn't room. My main tank is 225 gallons, and I would still like to put a refugium in my system. I was going to use about half of the sump Mitch built me. Put a separater in there and plumb the overflow into the other half. If I do this, I'm afraid the sump will not be able to handle the overflow from the tank if the power goes out or something. Any suggestions?
Ed

I seen a coulpe of sumps that are designed this way. How they did it was to use bulk head fittings on the divider and have them about half way down as to gravity feed into the acrual return chamber. Ya also MIght want to ask Scott AKA Reefland if he has any suggestions.

Jeff

Here is a link to one of them on ebay. For an example. These are a little high for me but use your own judgement. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=1235060261

I'm in the process of ordering my sump/refugium from that company, Stang 69 and it would be approximately 67 gallons in capacity. It would cost me $405 and they can build it in a week's time. Anybody ordered from this company yet? Thanks.

I just ordered a sump/refug from a company called Marine Meckanics. They will custom make the plexi sump any way, type or style you want and will match the specs you need. Mine is built for my 120 with a 20gal refuguim area and a 10gal sump with built in heater supports and a removable media tray. the sump will allow up to 3-1/2 gal of evaporation and 7 gallons for water backflow in case the power goes out.this is a 2 piece sump which allows me to assemly the unit and fit inder my existing stand. I spoke with a guy called Chuck and was extreamly helpful and would recommend Marine Mechanics to anyone.

Ed,
If you have the AM3000 opened up all the way then your putting close to 3000GPH through the sump. Not good for a refugium. Here's another reason to use the AM3000 on a closed loop and use a smaller pump for sump\refugium return.
