Cloudy water...again.

Hi guys, Well my tank was clear this morning. tonight I was putting in some PVC pipes as a support for the liverock and instant dust storm. I now have a large dinner plate on the bottom with a pump hooked up to a whole house sediment filter. How do you guys keep your water looking good when it seems all you have do is look at it to stir it up. I was going to drain the tank and start over but with our well I don't really want to do that. Is this normal? I'm using South Down sand. Thanks, Bill

How old is your tank? my tank did this for about the first two months i had it set up, now everything is fine. I think my hermit crabs did a good job of pulling all of that loose sediment out of the very topmost layer of the sediment. occasionally i will still get a dust storm when i do something that disturbs the lower reaches of my DSB but i try to avoid doing that

Hi Andy, Should have mentioned. The tank is brand new. I put the water in over a three day period last week. Just got the heat up tonight and was going to add the salt. I don't think the house filter is going to work. Looks like the filter on it might be clogging up. The water looks like milk. Bill

oh yeah, milk, i remember that all to well. Well get your LR in there and kicking, run some carbon and sit back and wait. It will take 2-3 weeks. I think it took two weeks for my tank to fully clear up. Just for sh*ts and giggles i tested my KH when it was all milky, i got a 33, it is pretty much just very fine calcium particles and i think the LR eats alot of that up, i know my corraline grew like crazy.

Good luck man, stick with it.

Andy

Okay, will do. I'll also get out of the panic mode. Thanks for the quick come back. Bill
