SPS questions

I bought this coral from Jeff's on Wednesday. Jeff said it was a " Green Arco" It looks very much like pictures I have of a purple Arco but not of the green Arco. I just want to make sure its what he said it was.

Also, if you look at the bottom left side you can see a small lighter brown\greennish area, bubbles seem to be forming on this area, I blow them away and they come back in a matter of hours. Any thoughts as to what this brown\greenish area is? Anything I should do about it?

lighting is 2x250 watt HQI's and 1x400 watt Iwasaki. I have this guy about 12" under one of the HQI's

Flow is around 3000 gph (150 gal tank)

I have a few SPS in the tank and have never had any problems like this. I dipped the coral in Kent's Tech D before introducing to the tank.

It looks to me like the lighter spot is dead/dying. Do you see any polyp extension in this area? I really wouldn't worry too much about it unless it starts spreading. It looks like a nice healthy frag everywhere else.

Hi Mark. It looks like my A. bushyensis.

Haven't been to Jeff's in a while as I am pretty much stocked for now. Also have 8 nice clams.

Hope all is going well. Pay your CC down so when I do come down we can use it.

Hey Golfish,

It's not uncommon for SPS to have damaged areas caused during shipping. As Personifer said don't worry unless it starts spreading. If you notice any algae growth on it suffocating the adjacent areas then you need to either keep it clean constantly as you have been doing or clip it off. I would just leave it for now and see how it does. Normally when it does acclimate it'll start growing over the dead areas.

Thanks Scubadude, I'm more of a clam man but I do have 10 or so SPS in my tank. Jeff isn't really known for having a good selection of SPS. Ever since he setup a 250 gal display tank in his shop he's had some nice corals brought in. I thought 30.00 was a good price.

that looks great Mark. I love the deep green color polyps. I haven't been to Jeff's in forever, the summers always kill me with plans.

Talk to you soon.

P.S. Let me know when you want a piece of that green acro I have.
