Post Clam in a nano tank?

I was wondering if I could put a small derasa clam in a 5 1/2g nano tank? The tank is cycling right now, and I'm getting 2 13w pc on monday. The main question is do I have enough light, and how long until it outgrows the tank?

Mikeman ~

That would be a bad idea for lots of reasons. T. derasa is the second largest of all the Tridacnids. It can easily get more than 20" long in captivity (if it lives). You should never put a Tridacna clam in a newly cycled tank. Even a derasa requires more light than you are going to have. A 5-1/2 gallon tank is entirely too small. It is just a bad idea all around.

Question

OK, this brings up a question for me.

I had planned on putting a tiny T. Maxima,i.e., < 3", in my 10 gallon. I am going to use a 157 watt 12000K MH bulb over the tank.

I understand that they will get big fast, but I was going to sell it back to my LFS.

Is there any reason that I could/should not add one to my tank?

Thanks,
Mark

personaly the smaller ones are harder to keep. they are much more dependant on nutrients in the water at that stage. i think even the most experienced would stray awa from this idea. nanos can be difficult because there is less to forgive. skip it and put a couple of bonsai corals.
