I was wondering who has something similar and your experiences with the up keep.. Rather how hard is it..

thanks

I also am interested in setting up a nano like this.Anyone out their no off these tanks quality? I see they have complete filtration sysytems and wondering if those little skimmers are any good. I would be looking at the 16 cube...

Hi Mobious: I have been running a 10 gallon system since October 2000. You asked how hard it is to keep them. I will tell you that it is MUCH easier to keep a larger system than a smaller system. While I do not make a habit of patting myself on the back, I believe that I have done a good job of maintaining this system. Keep in mind that weekly water changes are a MUST and that you will have an incredibly small window of opportunity in which to correct a problem within the system should it occur. It is very difficult to maintain one for a long period time unless you give it a lot of attention and stay true to the cause of maintaining it. Smaller, in reefkeeping, is not easier. This is in my experience and all that I can speak of. It is a very rewarding thing to accomplish harmony and balance in a small system. But the maintenance required and the limited amount of time in which to correct water imbalances prompted me to have a bigger system, which is currently cycling. When it is ready, I will use the small tank for quarentine only. I hope this will help you decide what you want to do, or at least shed some light on it. Either way, good luck and happy reefing!!!!

$190.00 doesn't seem a bad price for what you're getting. I recently set up a 7gal bowfront and kept track of my costs.
Cost
Tank 64.94
Skimmer 60.00
Light kit 59.50
Powerhead 17.95
Argomax 32.46
Heater 15.00
Live rock 15.00
Damsel 4.69
Total 269.54
I also have the 13gal CPR tank. It's about 6 month old, easy to care for and is absolutely beautiful (IMO)!!

I have been running a 3.5 gal nano in my office since January, and although it is a little soon to say for sure, it appears to be running will no problems.

I have a Eclipse System 3 that I pulled the filter pad out and modified the light to be a 13 watt PC. I would like a little better water flow, so I may add a micro pump to it down the road. I use a small 25 watt heater in it.

I have about a 2 1/ inch sand bed, and maybe 4 lbs of rock, with a few snails, hermits, a single clown, and assorted 'shrooms, xenia, sponges, and a small gorgonian.

Water changes are needed very regularly.

As far as the one you mention on Ebay, I would question if the filtering would be what you want. I have always been skeptical of a air driven skimmer that was less than a 1 foot tall being worth anything, and the wet/dry may cause problems down the road.

I recently set up a 7g bow also, granted i have never kept a bigger tank but, the only real mantienance issue that is a nuisance to me is the evaporation rate. i have to add about 1 cup of water per day. water changes on a small tank are a must on a regular basis. but it isn't that hard, it isn't like you are making up 10-20 gallons of water, i just do 2g weekly. i don't really think a skimmer is totally nessacary on that small of a tank as long as you do water changes but, that doesn't mean you don't need a filter!
