Tang food

Can anybody give me suggestions as to how to get my Yellow Tang to eat fresh broccoli?

This is only as a supplemental food, I feed mainly nori which he loves. I have read that broccoli makes a good supplement and would like to feed this on occasion.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

some fish just wont eat some things.put it the same place you put the nori(im sure you are),and dont give up.my tang wouldnt even touch nori(he loves spirulina flakes)for the first month, then he finally came around.

So do I feed fresh raw broccoli or steam it? Also- is the nori the same stuff you get at the grocery store or is it something from the lfs?

hi marsey ,
idealy iwould just put the broccoli in raw,if he doesnt go for it within one week(only leave it in a few hours at a time)then try blanching it.most tangs wont touch the stuff ime.
and yes the nori from youre supermaket is the same thing.just make sure it is plain roasted sushi nori,no additives.

My sailfin tang loves spinach. He didn't care too much for the broccoli.

I have given up on the broccoli thing. My tang just wouldn't eat it. He would swim up to it (on the clip) and look at it and then swim away. Oh well, if it ain't broke don't fix it

BTW, my clowns took to the broccolli.

If you take caulerpa from your refugium and feed it to your tangs will it grow in your main tank? Kind of an odd question but I have to ask .

I have thought about ordering some things from IPsf, particularly the tang heaven. Can this be fed to all tangs? I don't want them to starve. I want to have enough variety in their diets to keep them healthy.

Try freezing the brocolli and then letting it sit in tank water to thaw, then clip it and try to feed. This helps to weaken the cell walls of the brocolli without destroying the nutrients as boiling or steaming would. It will also make is softer for your tang, which would have a hard time eating the brocolli unfrozen. Also try dipping it in selcon or zoecon, this will give it even more nutritional qualities. HTH
