do I ask for death?? 2.5 gal hexagon..

ok heres the scoop, I have the following just laying around:

2.5 gal hexagon
sand
LR rubble
salt
water
heater
UGF
airpump
light
etc...

And I havent bought my sister a BDAY present, and I think a nano/seahorse tank would be a good present. Is it worth a shot?

was thinking about getting her:

4 dwarf seahorse (H. zoestrae (sp?))
2 cerith (from my reef (cheap skate!))
2 nassarius (again from my reef)
1 peppermint shrimp

hows that sound? There pretty much, would be no cycle, since I will use LS, and LR from my tank.

I am a member there, no need to worry about the brine shrimp at the moment, as there are no MO places selling until september...

Talking That's a great idea!

I would recommend you register at www.seahorse.org if you have not yet.

As far as your set up goes, it looks good.

Two things though:

1.) Avoid the live rock. It introduces hydroids which prey on the dwarfs.
2.) You will probably want to go with a dozen dwarfs. Four will make the tank look empty.

Surpise of surprises, the UGF is a good thing in this set up. It will provide just the right amount of current.

i am a member there, and I have around 30 posts...

Mark, I trust your judgement 100% so i will skip the LR, could I instead put tufa chips in?

12 dwarfs in a 2.5 gal? I guess I never got an image of just how small they are. The only thing costing my $$ is the horses, and the hitching posts. This is great, because it wont cost alot at all! I gotta butter up my mom though, because my house is an aquarium exhibit as it is! although we only have 3 tanks set up at the moment, they are all 30 gal and over, and I have 2 10 gals, 1 29gal 1 5 gal, 2 2.5 gals, and 1 3 gal in the shed I have endless possibilities.

Dwarfs grow to a maximum of 1/2". That is stretched out from tip of snout to tip of tail. They are very small.

I really wanted to add live rock, but was warned against it. I ended up going with base rock. Tufa would be good or some other form of base rock. If your really want to coraline and I am sure that you do, get the coraline plugs from IPSF.

Also, Cheryl at seahorse.org sells dwarfs all year. Contact her at crazy4fish@vei.net She charges $48 for a dozen. Also, ask to get on her livestock mailing list. She has some great prices.

you must be very dedicated to the hobby. i was going to set up a dwarf tank however i decided against it. its a lot of work to keep them but if your into the extra work go for it. i am at my max capacity with a 130 gal reef, 130 gal goldfish, 90 gallonfowlr, and 29 horse. peace

yeah, I like fish... I wanted a 20 gal horse tank, but I dont have the room (I almost have enough tanks: 30 reef, 35 FW community, 72 FW to be reef, and a dwarf tank... )

After some consideration, It is going to be a 10 gallon nano/ horse tank.
