That is cool... not all of it is exactly how I would do it (especially with the cement substrate), but it is great still.
I really like electronic 3 way ball valves he is using for wave flow. Someday I will have a setup like that. ![]()

I just spent the better part of an hour reading that site. His bare- bottom-artificial sand-bed is interesting. I like the acrylic rods for securing the rocks too.

Mark,
The 3 way ball valves that you referred to are called actuated ball valves. And yes they are quite effective indeed with dual return applications. I like the fact that you can use a little less pump for return, because the water flows fom one side at a time as opposed to two constant returns from each end of the tank. If you are thinking of one of these in the future, I do have a suggestion though. The Hayward valve(like the one pictured on the webpage) is a good valve, but I would encourage AT LEAST looking into the Asahi valve. The mechanics are a little bit smoother, and a little more quiet, and in my experience, the warantee is a little less troublesome to navigate thru legalities. As the author explained/exclaimed even, the valves are a little pricey, but I believe that they pay for themselves over time. I am sure, if you get one someday, that you will always question how you ever did with out one before. As usual, all the above is IMHO. Duncan.

Hi:
the 650gal tank is awesome.... As far as the valves situation, I believe this concept was taken from the tank of Robert Michelson. About 5 or 6 yrs ago he posted his 200gal tank website. Michelson is a engineer of sometype and he conceptionalized using rotating ball valves and other wave creating devices. Hes got a web page http://avdil.gtri.gatech.edu/RCM/RCM...NAquarium.html it hasn't been updated in years, but it contains many one of kind ideas for optimizing and automating the home aquarium. |
