Thumbs up New Cleaner Shrimp!

Well, today i got my first ever skunk cleaner shrimp, and i must say it has more personality than my blenny and clown combined!!! It is so neat, whenever i go into my tank to move something he jumps right on my arm and rides around with me, and if i pinch a little piece of flake in my fingers he come shooting over from where ever he is and gobbles it right up! The most interactive aquatic pet i have ever owned! I highly reccomend them to everyone

BTL; You can't go wrong with the skunks. I've had two in each of my tanks from the get go. Aside from the services they perform to he other fish, they are probably the most interesting things in the tank to watch. When friends come over, they comment more on the shrimps than almost anything in the tank. I might suggest getting a second one as they ae often more social and active in pairs, plus they will spawn. What do you pay for skunks down in the 'burgh? Ours run about 20 bucks. Good luck. JWT

BTL,

Congrats on the new shrimp. I agree that they have a lot of personallity. I had one with two peppermint shrimp in my tank. The cleaner would jump on my hands and dig under my finger nails any time I put my hands in the tank. The peppermint shrimp seem to have learned from the cleaner and they do the same thing now. They are such cool creatures. Guests really enjoy watching them because the only shrimp they have ever seen have been on a dinner plate.

Andy, I'm from Erie. You ever get up here to enjoy our fabulous beaches? I've some friends down there from school. Used to spend some weekends there, and we still go to quite a few Penns games. JWT.

Hi Everyone,
I have considered getting 1 or 2 for my 29G. But have been a little reluctant to. The first shrimp I ever had was a true peppermint shrimp. The little bugger was eating everything, including my snails and worms so he had to go back.
Do skunk cleaners do the same? If they are going to eat my good guys then I do not want them.
I have sen them in the stores and the are awesome looking and would welcome them in my tank, but not at the expense of the other critters.
Thanks,
CaptK

BLT; Hey! small world! Next time your in Erie, check out Sea Cave. It's on E. 14th and Reed. Nice Store, clean tanks, good selection of fish most of the time and also corals. The owner is a long time hobbyist and is a good guy to deal with. I have a buddy who now lives in Cleveland graduated from Allegheny. JWT

CaptK. Skunks will not bother snails. They will search out pods and might possible eat small worms but I haven't seen it. I'd highly recommend a couple for your tank. JWT

My cleaner actually had a taste for flake food, he swims (yes swims) around the tank when ever i feed and grabs as much of the flake as he can. Kind of funny to watch
