I've been running skimmerless for the past 2 weeks (because my skimmer sucks the almighty big one!) Ive been testing quite frequently, and water quality is better than I ever imagined. But i am having nightmares about it crashing, since i donot have a sump (or the money to get one now.) I am worry about exess proteins, and nutrients in the water, although the algae i've been removing should be enough export. but ive almost run out of algae!

Hi Fishkid!
If you removing more than what is growing, your exporting a bit too much of your algae. A good rule is to remove half of your algae when exporting and as long as it is growing you shouldn't deplete it.
If your still concerned with nutrients building, run the skimmer part time or do more frequent water changes. Scott ![]() |
