I agree, Todd at Global is great to work with. He went out of his way to help me with my initial setup at the beg of this year. I ended up purchasing a lot of equip from Todd and was very happy with his service, suggestions, and products.

In Feb I purchased two of the SWR powerheads. The 4500 and the larger one. Up until last weekend, both worked flawlessly. Last weekend, the motor stopped on the 4500. The larger model is still working great.

Are you going to be able to send the 4500 that died in and either get a repair or a new one? I hope that their is some type of warranty on these>

Not sure on the warrenty. Nothing is written in english, and I have not emailed Todd. I think it might have been 6 months (I've had mine 7), but I'll find out and post back.

Thanks for reminding me.

I still don't get it...

How does the remote motor unit run the impellers on the in-tank unit? What is the output of the units you have?

The main difference between the design of these powerheads and a submersible powerhead is the length of the shaft. The shaft passes through a water-right rubber seal inside the shaft casing and terminates at two impellers. An intake is located just above each impeller. The outputs are larger than say a Maxijet 1200, about 3/4" each, so at the stated 355 gph for each output, you do not have the "shearing" action from the force of the water exiting the pump. Unless you attach the fan-shaped tip, the exiting water is quite high, but doesn't have the force of a powerhead with a smaller output. Hope this makes sense. The 4500s are stated to circulate 710 gph. There is no way for me to measure this, so I'll have to take their word for it.

Re: I still don't get it...

Well, Todd responded to my email I sent last night later that night. Todd said he would send a new one out in the next couple days. Says a lot about Global and Todd. He stands by his products.

As far as the SWR powerheads, they do kick out the flow. And they do run cooler. When the 4500 died, I replaced it with a Maxi 1200 I had and the temp of my tank went up 1-2 degrees. They are nice units, even though I had one die after 7 months. But Todd being the nice guy he is, took care of it with no questions or hassles. I can't say enough good things about Todd

Thanks again for remainding me about checking into a warranty. I'm so use to LFS not backing their products that I just forgot to ask.

Any updates on these powerheads? Working good? Someone told me that theirs had rusted - is it a stainless steel shaft? They have a new even larger version out now that looks like it might even do aroound 1,350 gph.

Thanks, Nathan

nathan....Mine were working good..till I decided to unplug them to
do some maintenance on the tank....got down doing some stuff with the tank, and one of them wouldn't start...so I took it out and found out that the motor mount had broken causing it to rub againest the plastic. Ifixed that but it still wouldn't run..So I waited a few hours and tried again and it ran but didn't sound to good...So I sent it back to todd and he said it was cause I broke the mount and it caused the motor to overheat...so he gave me half credit...and I took the other one out of my tank and it's just sitting in the garage --...I didn't see any rust on the shaft but there where only in there for 3 weeks..hope that helps
