I wanted to put in a good post about Global Aquarium Supply (http://www.globeaqua.com/subpages/pumps.html). They are one of the few MO companies that carry high-output air-cooled powerheads. (No more ugly powerheads in the tank!) Not only am I extremely pleased with the product (two SWR 4500s)
, but I sent at least 4 emails to this company, and each time I was very promptly answered by the CEO of the company, Todd Santora, who patiently answered ALL of my questions about the different models and gave me advice. He even put in a note with my package, which arrived in two days by priority mail. (Their website states a high shipping cost, which is inaccurate). Shipping on these two powerheads (they are the size of small outboard motors but extremely quiet) was only $8.95. Hats off to Global Aquarium Supply. I still don't know how to post multiple pics (somebody help me!) so sorry for the multiple posts, but I wanted you to be able to see the great powerheads for youself. ![]()

3rd pic of 4 (the motor portion of the powerhead above the water line; this model does not come with mounting hardware, so I had to use eggcrate):

Looks very good. Have you noticed a temp decrease since these are air cooled over PH's?

Very Interesting.
Is the water intake just above the outflows? Are they noisy like an air pump?

Dukedog, I probably will see a 1 or 2 degree difference (the weather is cool here now, so it is impossible to tell) because these powerheads replaced a Maxijet 1200 and a Cap 1800. I suspect the Cap 1800 prolly contributed to higher water temps.
Oganicreefer, thanks for the compliment. My camera (Sony) pics up red for some reason and makes my colt look pink. The only photo adjusting I do is increase the contrast (deepens the shadows) and increase the sharpness. I've recently had someone accuse me of "garfing" my photos, which I do not. I forgot to mention these powerheads were only $45 each. I've seen similar powerheads for $100-200 each. These are Japanese made, so hopefully, it is a good product. Only time will tell. ![]()

Reinhold, there are two intakes and two impellers on each powerhead. Intake is located just above each impeller. They are almost silent when running (incredible!). Just a slight hum. If not placed flush with eggcrate I mounted them on, they can vibrate the eggcrate and make more noise. But I plan to put some of that sponge rubber stuff you put under throw rugs between the powerhead and the eggcrate to absorb any vibration. Even with out it, they are extremely quiet. HTH

MROK, I've only had them running for 24 hours. I would be curious to know what kind of problems Champion had with them...let me know. Thanks.

The guys at champion wouldn't elaborate any more than "problems". He said they had quite carrying them for that reaseon. I am still consdering using them though. Are they wave maker compatible?

WOW
Nice reef !!!
I do like the way you arranged the rocks. It is very peaceful in its apperance. Lovely angelfish as well in the tank. How is the micro algea growth been sice you added the refugium? I am thinking about using one too. My wife is in the process of setting up a LING system. We picked up everting on friday last week. I will Keep you posted on how well this natural method works. We will not use a skimmer on this tank either. LOVE THE TANKS MROK12 |

MROK, I was wondering myself if they are wavemaker compatible. Email the company at aquaglobal@aol.com. I am sure you will get a quick response. Then could you let me know too. Thanks.

Greenlincoln,
Global aquarium supplies(Todd) says he uses a wavemaster pro to run his SWR powerheads. Champion doesn't sell them any moer because they lost there supplier. I will be getting a set of these babies for my 120 now. hope to hear how your are doing!!! let me know if you get a wave maker and how well it works. The only thing to fear is...... Now THAT'S customer service. They aren't even open for business today, and he still answered your email. Very cool.
Please let me know how yours do on a wavemaker. If it works out, that will be my next purchase from Global. Thanks for letting me know!!! ![]()
