Can A Torch Coral Lose It's Sting?

I have a Colt coral frag which fell off its perch and landed next to my Torch coral. The Torch, which sends out stinger tentacles 8-10"long, swarmed all over it, but nothing seems to have happened to the Colt. I left the Colt where it landed, and after 3 weeks, there is no damage to the Colt.

Can a Torch, or any other stinging coral for that matter, lose its ability to sting?
