Algae ID (and fun pictures)

Just wanted to post a few pictures and see if I can get an ID of this algae. It has spread quite rapidly, but it small enough to make it a very welcome addition.

Enjoy!

Not sure what it is but I would love some, if it gets out of hand and you start to prune it back I would be happy to pay for shipping!!

BTW There is a link to an algae ID site on the ID page of my site that may help ID it!

Hi all!

chromis,

I've had the Butterfly for about 3 months now. It immediately accepted frozen mysis when acclimated from the distributor. A very welcome addition to my reef.

Green Mariner,

I'll keep you in mind. I could probably get you a few small pieces now if you wanted.

That last pic looks like Hair algae to me. And you are right, that stuff is fun!

well, slight change of plans. I bought the copperband today after a long chat with the manager of the store and watching the fish eat some brine. He is in my 10 gallon quarantine with a piece of aptaisia infested rock. I put a towel over his tank to reduce stress. He is from Fiji and was collected by a diver and not some kid with a slurp gun. All I have right now in the freezer is brine, should I buy something else? Pictures do not do this species justice, they "radiate" in person.

Saltjunkie, you still interested in trading worms for pods?

Good luck with your Copperband

I've had several Copperband Butterfly fish over the years when I had a FO tank, but even though they initially ate (usually frozen brine only) they all eventually stopped eating and died. They are some of the most beautiful fish you can find. I hope yours survives. I'd try to train it to the most diverse diet you can get it to eat.

thanx reinhold, I fed him brine last night and though the fish had a hard time finding the food, he picked it off the bottom and rocks. Hes in quarantine with a bunch of aptaisa so he appears to be picking aptaisas and tubeworms off the rocks. I'm going shopping today for food, I hope to get whole clams, formula one and cocktail shrimp. I also have about 9 species of algae I can offer. He was at the lfs for over 3 weeks so I am hoping he will adapt to captivity nicely/

thanks again
