Fragging Anthelia Polys
Hi Everyone,
About 3 months ago I introduced a single anthelia polyp into my tank (that was all I had that survive the shipment) Well 3 months later this single polyp has EXPLODED it has reproduced like CRAZY. So I am contemplating getting these polys in some condition to be able to trade them or just give out to others. Currently I have about 3 large patches of this stuff, but it is attached to the rocks, large rocks. I have another starting colony that is in the sand. Is there a way that I could get this stuff to grow on loose rubble so I can have it available to ship out? Or is there a way to safely remove the polyps and attach them to a loosw rock to grow? Thanks, CaptK |

Re: Fragging Anthelia Polys
Just like myself, I started out with just a few polyps. I throw small pieces of live rock beside the athelia and it attaches like crazy! I have it growing like weeds. It's even growing on the glass. This is much easier, you will not hurt the athelia trying to de-attach the polyps.
Good Luck ![]() |

Anthelia?
You can easily frag anthelia. It is easy to grow, and you will do it a favor-it can grow so dense that it will kill itself off in the center. Periodic pruning is a must.
BE WARNED: It is a prolific grower. mine took over about a third to half of my 90 gal. It grew around my Galaxea, and rubbed it to death. It killed everything in its path. I ended up pulling out several square feet of it(I still have some though). Enjoy, Jack |

Hi Everyone,
Is it possible just to just pluck some of the polys off of its mat without injuring the animal? -CaptK |

I have fragged ours that way. You will find that the polyps are somewhat connected by a fibrous base. This can be gently pulled off with tweezers or a sharp blade, and the polyps come right off. I use superglue (the gel) after gently drying both rock and polyp. It isn't hard to do, and the anthelia is pretty hardy.
Good luck. |

Put loose rubble around it, or take the upward growths slice em off and use a a piece of an onion sack or other mesh to hold it to a rock. Using super glue on this type of coral is a PIA IMO. Good luck.
