    Reefland's Live Sand

For those interested, last week I purchased 50# of the live sand sold here at Reefland for use in a new refugium I added to my system. My orginal plan was to purchase Southdown & seed it with kits from Inland/IPSF, but the Home Depots by me were out of stock and would not get more till next year. After much research, I found the live sand here was less (90 cents/lb) than the "dead" sand at my LFS. I figured the shipping would be high, but found that using Fedex ground only cost me $13 for the entire order. And it was shipped in one day to Columbia Station, Ohio. Not bad service.

Anyway, sorry for rambling, but I wanted to thank Scott for excellant service and the sand was well worth the money.

    Have a great day,

    Jimmy

Jimmy you forgot the most important part. How much life was actually in it?

What have you found in there?

I'm still another month-month & half before I get my new tank (200G) setup so i'm considering all my options for LS. Including IPSF kits.

    Your input is appreciated.

As far as the amount/kind of critters in the sand, it's real hard to tell. But I've seen many worms and little "bugs".

In my case, since my only option was to purchase "dead" bagged sand at the LFS, Reefland's sand, even with shipping, came out cheaper. In total, it cost $58 for 50#. So I was very happy with the sand and would order again. Though my location benefited me in regards to the shipping costs/options.

I believe diverisity within the sand bed is very important. Therefore I populate my sand beds with critters for as many sources as possible. So the live sand I just received will also be populated with kits from Inland and IPSF, along with bags of live sand from other LFS.

Sorry for not really taking an inventory of critters, but time was at a premium, therefore I did not inspect the sand as I would have liked too.

If you have any more questions, please ask.

    Jimmy
