I came home tonight to find one of my emerald crabs had died. I had six, and the others seem to be fine. I have had them about a month, and my tank seems very healthy. My snails are all very active, the other five crabs tonight seem very active, and my fish are all very alert and eating very well. All of levels are at 0. My pH is 8.2, and sg is 1.022. Could my crab have had a disease? Could have one of the others beat him up? I have seen a couple of fights the in the last week. What sort of things should I be looking for? Thanks.

Are you sure it didn't just molt?
Does the body have anything inside? If it is empty chances are it just molted and is hidding until its new exoskeleton hardens.

I just looked, and sure enough, his shell was empty. WOW!!! About how long does the process take?

It depends on how fast they grow as to how often they molt...more food, more growth, more molting... At least that is what I have noticed, HTH

I just got an Emerald Crab last week, and I thought it was the coolest
thing ever to put in my tank. It's awesome. Doesn't bug anything else moves around alot, and cleans algae. How many Emerald Crabs can I put into a 10 gallon long? What is the Gallon Per Crab ration? Also, I have some scarlets in there. Are there any other types of crabs I can put into my mini-reef? |
