I have four species of acropora in my tank with 440 watts of vho. I have them at the highest point of the rock work, approximately 1/4 of the way in the ends of the tank. They are doing very well...growth is amazing. However, they do not color up like they would with MH, but since the growth has been fantastic (especially my blue tip) and they are always polyped out, I am not worried about new lights. I think flow, adequate lighting and water quality are what's most important. MH is better than VHO for acropora, but if your water parameters are excellent, you shouldn't have any problems seeing healthy acropora in your tank. Btw, not all acropora is collected in light-intense areas. They are able to adapt to a wide range of light conditions.

G.L. has a good point, some species of acropora are thriving from about as much light as a bic lighter in the wild (...E.Bournemen)

give it some time and good clean water

gl, that for the great advice i'm glad my lights might be good enough. its a nice piece for coral with two little crabs living in it. so it likes good current too.
