Lobyphyllia - Give it a chance or take it out? Immediate response please!!!
Dear Reeflanders:
I brought home a lobyphyllia coral 2 weeks ago from my LFS. This coral exhibited full polyp expansion for the first 3 days or so, but since has begun to "whiten" and polyp expansion has decreased ("teeth are more apparent than ever). At the same time, my Trachyphillia open brain is not expanding like it has done so for the last year. I think this is occurring due to the state of the lobyphillia. I am going on vacation for 5 days - should I give the lobyphllia a chance, or should I go ahead and remove it since he will probably die and pollute the tank? I have a 1 year established 92 gallon tank that still shows no trace of ammonia or nitrates and all other parameters are good. I have VHO lighting and the lobyphillia is not highly placed, so it is not bleaching due to too much light (I think). Thank you! |

If you are leaving for 5 days i would remove it.
this kind of thing takes constant supervision to try to cure. I would do a large water change after removing it as well. ~what kind of vho's do you have? (IE...watts per bulb and kalvin rating) ~how long have you had the Trac.? good luck, Joe Also, Give it a chance until the last minute before your departure. Thank you for your reply. Ironically, we're coming down your way to Tampa to visit family for 5 days. I have had the Trachyphillia for nearly a year. It has been flourishing the entire time until the introduction of the Lobyphillia. I have several other hard and soft corals that do not seem to be bothered, however. I have 3 36 inch VHO lamps and a 24 inch VHO lamp (approx. 360 watts). Thanks again. |
