I recently purchased a lemonpeel angel from the lfs and noticed the color was fine when at the store, but when I got it into my tank the color around the eyes darkened a bit. Color has stayed that way looking almost like it has black eyes, I also noticed a similar colored spot on it's side. Any suggestions as to what caused this? I had one of these fish when I first began over a year and a half ago and it got some kind of infection very similar and died. I would like to get this cured before I lose another one.

Is this a juvenile Centropyge flavissimus?
Anyway, from your description, it sounds like a juvenile and the black spot on the side is normal coloration for juveniles. Ninong ------------------ Irrational Exuberance! |

Actually the spot is not dark and only on one side and these are completely yellow colored fish maybe I go the name wrong but the color changed only when I got it in my tank. The last angel I had got what looked like a pepper grain spotting on his scales and then later died. How big do they get also??? Mine is about 4 inches long and living in a 30 gallon reef tank, along with 4 damsels and one rock blenny.

Well, if it's 4" long, it's an adult. They can get about 5" long maximum.

Just my thought,
But I thought that the lemon peel angels actually are suppossed to have some sort of "eyeshadow" around their eyes. I think I have seen them in pictures with blue around their eyes. -CaptK |
