Tube anemone experience
I saw some really nice looking tube anemones in the LFS today. From what I have read they are easy to keep but may eat small clowns and hurt dwarf angels.
Anyone have any experience with them? Karun |

IMO they are best kept in a species tank. They have a big sweep with their tentacles and keeping them with fish might be risky. They are very hardy animals, they do not require light like host anemones. There are some at the Naples Aquarium(Italy) that have been kept over a 100 years. They have a very elegant way of feeding. A bit of food stung by the long feeder tentacles is rapidally drawn in and wiped across the shorter tentacles around the mouth. The long feeder tentacle is the extended again.

Ranaman, Sher,
Thanks for the advice. I think I will skip the tube anemones for now. Maybe later it I can set up a species tank. Karun |

I just bought a tube anemone today at the lfs. It's color is a combination orange/pink. Very pretty. We have a few small watchman gobies in our tank but they stay pretty much under their favorite rock. Also have a golden-tail pgymy (sp) angel. I certainly hope the anemone is not going to make a meal of them. Recently had to take a coral-banded shrimp back for that very reason.

imo tube anemones should not be kept with fish, they can snare them at night..now fish arent stupid, and most learn to avoid them.....but its like having a booby trap in youre bedroom, even though you know its there you might stumble into it one night half-asleep
why do you want a booby trap in youre fishes bedroom?![]() |

all anemones are quite capable of snaring fish and eating them, should we not keep fish with our bubbletip anemones because they are "booby traps"? I dont see why tube anemones are different. The only reason I would not get one is becasue of their sweepers...

chromis, you cant make a blanket statement on the ability of anemones to catch fish.......tube anemones are very "predatory" and very actively grab things...this along with their long tentacles make them a MUCH greater risk than say a bubble tip.............
