Now you've done it, this could get ugly. I've been holding back on this board but since you went and brought it up I'm "comming out", yes, I am a plenum guy! I honestly can't remember where I first learned about setting them up but check Bob Goems booklet, "Live Sand Secrets", I think that may be it. Plenums are great if you do it right. They get a lot of bad press, mostly I think from people who don't set them up correctly. Admittedly I have never tried deep sand bed but it sounds to me like it works just as well based on everyones reports so can't argue that plenum is "better", can only say that ime it works. You read a lot about plenums "crashing". I have theory. My guess is that more plenums fail in glass tanks than acrylics. Why? Acrylic tanks always sit on solid surface whereas glass tanks often sit on "framework" type stand. You will read plenum described as "nutrient sink". If you sit glass tank on "frame" stand and allow light to get to space under plenum what do you think will happen? Hmmmmm, light + water + nutrients... yea, we all know what that will do. Paint bottom of tank black!!!! No time now but I will try to find basic design and get back to you.
