Hi all,
Please can anyone advise me on weather or not either swimming pool paint, or the paint used for pond's is safe for marine aquaira. Some say no and some say yes. I am planning to paint the inside of a DIY sump providing I determine if either of them is reef safe. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dunk |

I have used single component marine epoxy paints such as Petit EasyPoxy with no ill effects. I'm sure any two part epoxy based paint would be fine. In either case allow adequate cure time. If you are looking for a low budget "home depot" answer I have no experience to share and I personally wouldn't risk it. My concern with the pool or pond paints would be hardness, how resistent to scratching and chipping are they? Then again, you probably won't be scraping algae with a razor blade in sump so if they are single component "poly urathane" paints they may be OK. At this point are you asking yourself why you didn't just buy used aquarium for sump? I thought so

If I'm not mistaken the pool paint will most likely breakdown in about 5 years, I wouldn't use it. Although I don't know his name (Mr. 4000 on RC) he uses pool paint as a liner between cement and the water with no ill effects (what he is thinking is the corraline and everything will "seal" his tank b4 5 yrs, I don't think it will happen
) HTH
