As I was feeding my fish this evening I watched in horror as one of my emerald crabs took a pinch out of my bubble anenome. I quickly moved my crab to the other side of the tank, but he scurried over to the anenome and took another pinch. I then removed the crab from the tank. The anenome was pulled into a tight ball, but unfurled in about 2 hrs. When it started to open up, I noticed that 5 of it's tentacles were a nasty green and chewed up. The tentacles also did not bubble the way they normally do. Is there anything I can do? Should I be worried? Please let me know. Thanks.

I think you did the best thing already, removed the crab... how is it doing so far? hope for the best, i think as long as the mouth or base was undamaged it MAY recover...hth

Man, that really stinks. I've got an Emerald in my tank, and he eats
the stuff around the anemone, and the leftover food the anemone produces. He sleeps right at the base of it. Hopefully yours recovers. Could it have been dying already or was it completely healthy to begin with? |

Every once in awhile my emerald will take a nibble on my bubble coral. I grab my punishment stick (the long rod I use to keep things from hurting expensive items) and pushed him away. I did it a couple times one night and he has not been back since.
My bubble recovered fine and is trying to recover from my clown taking bites of it (do you eat your home too?). If the crab continues you can put the crab in the sump for a few days and see if he stops. |
