Cool pH, alkalinity, nitrate

A question for all of you. I was reading the reef aquarium by sprung last night and was re-reading the chapter on pH, alkalinity and nitrate. I decided to check my pH and alkalinity, I rarely check them as I don't have any problems. My pH was 8.2 and my alkalinity was barely reading anything. (8:00 pm) My nitrates are 20 ppm, they gradually move up to 60 over a few months and I do a water change.

I have no issues with corals or the fish, my question is should I be concerned with a low alkalinity reading? As I understand, the ocean is around 2.5 I am near 0.

If it isn't broke, should I try to fix it? What would one day to increase the alkalinity?

My tank is not overstocked with fish, I have no bio-balls or media in the tank, my live rock and sand are my biological filtration.

What are your thoughts...

Your alkalinity test kit must be in error. You cannot have near zero alkalinity at pH 8.2 in seawater. I would test again with a new kit. I like the LaMotte, but the Hach kit works well too.
