Question adding salt

I just got my 55 tank set up completely (got it for christmas). When I add salt should I stop the overflow and add it separately to the sump and tank or just dump it in and let it circulate(2 hagen 802). Also this may sound kind of weird but does anyone know how I can get (dog) hair out of my tank? One of my lids broke and I have a german shepherd that sheds like crazy and leaving the lid of for one day resulted in a small but annoying number of dog hairs.
Thanks
Andrew

Never add salt directly to a stocked tank. That's a bad thing. If you don't have anything in it but fresh water right now I'd say it's ok to mix the salt in the initial tank water.

However, the emphasis is on never adding it to a stocked, established tank. I found out the hard way when I was starting - took me a little too long to find these boards.

I didn't do it. Nobody saw me do it. You can't prove anything.

yeah, nothing in there but fresh water and some dog hair, so should I stop the overflow and add it to sump and tank separately?

I would just let the tank run as normal.. Then add the salt and let it circulate...
