I have mine extending now at feeding time. Its almost as if I have him trained to sense food in the water.
What I do is I cut a coke bottle in half. I poked a small hole about 1/2 the way down the bottle half. I put the bottle in the tank and burp the air out, I then cover the SC and use a syringe to squirt food inside the bottle. That way he gets the food and the rest of the tank dosent. I feed mine about 3x a week usually frozen brine, and its doing super. Its nice to have it come out around feeding time, which is in the evening, that way I can enjoy it. It will also open up at night and early morning without the lights on.

They usually extent at night. It's an easily kept coral if you have patient to feed it. you can position it some where near top of the tank for easy feeding, It does not affect by the amount of night it expose to.
bottom line.. you most keep it well fed when it extents when the lights are off. Hope this helps. Jason |

To coax it out to feed you can try squirting some clam juice over it at night just after lights out with a turkey baster. After a few nights it should start to extend it's polyps as soon as the lights turn off. Be sure when you feed that you let each polyp get something to eat.
If taken care of properly the coral can really start to grow.

By feeding it right after you feed the tank you will teach it to come out with the lights on, mine does.

Thank you for the replies, especially the cokebottle trick! The food always floats away but now I am going to try that idea. Thank you so much!

I originally trained my SC with nightly squirts of Baby Brine Shrimp. After a few days, when feeding the tank, the polyps would come out, giving me the chance to feed them (all polyps) with a turkey baster. Mine are doing real good. I have my SC placed on top of one of my LR, making easier to feed, and for better current.
When they are well fed, the polyps will even come out with lights on. Mine do too. HTH
