Question Yellow tang and Caulerpa

I bought a very small yellow tang (I know my tank is WAY too small for it) to help control wild Caulerpa growth. He completely demolished my decorative red macro algae (for get the type now) in less than a week, and I had quite a bit. He constantly nibbles at the C. cupressoides and sawtooth Caulerpa but I don't really see it "receeding" much. I know that Fossa and Nilsen say that tangs aren't overly fond of either if those 2 types of Caulerpa. I also know the rapid grow of Caulerpa is likely due to too high of nutrients (i.e. overfeeding/overstocking) the tank. I plan to return the tang when/if he does a good job on the Caulerpa. My question is...about how long should that take? A loaded question I know! It is only a 29 gal reef with maybe 7 softball size clumps of Caulerpa (mostly C. cupressoides as the sawtooth is pretty easy to harvest by hand). He ate about 4 softball size clumps of red macro in about a week. Any guesses?

Thanks!

I dunno how long it should take but once he does get rid of it and you get rid of him it is gonna take off again What I would do to "hurry" up the process is to take as much out by hand as you can so your tang only has to eat the growing algae not the growing algae AND the prexisting algae...HTH
