pale caluerpa

My razor caluerpa gets very pale and almost translucent in the morning when I wake up. It does get green later in the day, around the evening. Is this normal? Or am I missing some trace elements, nutrients, or light intensity?

thanks

Alexis, I would like to help you but I need to know what you are calling "razor" caulerpa. C. mexicana? It matters. Some species occasionally "cellophane", "go sexual" or simply die off on a regular basis but they do not recover by nightfall. Does the rest of the world look pale to you in the morning and get better as the day wears on? -Just kiding.

This is how it looks in the evening. I have seen it greener though. I have a 96watt 50/50 cf bulb on a 40g

My feather caulerpa does that when the nutrients are getting too low, soon after it goes sexual and blows away. Mine also always lightens up slightly by morning, and by the peak of the day has darkened, but it never gets that light unless I haven't fed it for a month or more.

Very strange indeed. I have seen that "morning" picture many times but it has never recovered, just dies off from there. Looks like C. taxifolia by the way. Not a lot of light for a 40, maybe extend photo period or add more light and see what happens. You have weird caulerpa my friend. How are other tank params? I'd check everything, including day/night temp and ph swings. Do you have any other tanks? Try some in dif tank (even a friends) and see how it does. How long has this been going on? IMO it's soon to die if you don't figure this out.
