Devil's hand dying

10 days ago I decided to trim my devil's hand. I just cut 1 finger out of 20 and now it's slowly turning yellow- green and dying back. It was healthy and doing fine, but getting too big. What should I do? The razor was new and I did clean it. Should I cut it all out to save polluting the rest of the tank?

MyColor: Are you sure what you are seeing is the coral dying or is it possibly waxing? Leathers such as this will often wax when disrupted. In fact, my devil's hand does this regularly. It turns the color you mentioned. I use a turkey baster or something like it to gently blow across it to aid in the shedding process. Give it time. If you actually see it starting to disintegrate or fall apart, then I'd believe it to be dying. But if it's waxing, it should shed a thin layer of skin and then reopen. HTH

Thumbs up Ditto to Joanne's comments

If you are real worried about it then you can squirt just a tad of Kent Iodine in your tank, as many propagators do this to assist in the healing process of the corals when they propagate.

Thanks guys~
Even the word waxing seems to define what I'm seeing compared to disintegrating. The form of the fingers are there and it is sheding. I will leave it alone for a while. If I want to trim even more, should I wait or would it hurt to do more while it is healing?

I would wait, so you can see/observe its characteristics while its healing most soft leathers are VERY TOUGH! and that is a common characteristic of a leather (shedding and waxing) Just give it time, im sure it will come back to full health, and when it does then you can finish fraggin it

Can a frogspawn touch this devil's hand when it is healed?

I should give an up date on the devil's hand. It is doing fine and just about opened up all the way. I have been gently blowing off its shedding material with the baster - this really helped. I still need to trim(I wish I had someone to frag off to!) some fingers when it gets really healthy.

MastaJ~

I just read your e-mail- I've been busy handing out progress reports to my non- art student who are just enjoying their junior/senior year too much. I'll keep you in mind because things are looking a lot better.
