I just recently purchased a flower (aka rock) anemone (Epicystis crucifer, I believe). I have it under a rock ledge on the substrate and it gets a little light. It has not buried it's stalk and I am wondering if it will or should I try to bury it, or leave it alone?
Also it has a fairly large mouth. I have tried to feed pieces of fresh scallop, frozen mysis (shredded) and Formula 1. It doesn't seem to eat these larger chunks as I would expect with a mouth that size. I have read they are "big eaters" though. Do you target feed yours? It seems to be eating something (plankton maybe) as it folds up and contracts several times a day and I have seen it expell waste. Thanks! |

I've kept a couple of epicystis crucifer anemones in the past few years. Both were orange. The first can in as a rider on live rock, and the second was a special order from Sea Critters.
Mine readily eats things like shrimp. I feed it only cooked foods, because I blame the death of one on contaminated raw shrimp. I feed it once per week to once per 2 weeks. It's base is attached inside the rock. It attached in less than a day, and found a spot where it is quite happy. It attaches under a rock, and exposes it's disk to the light at an angle (so it is not flat on to the 175 w mh lamp).

Thanks for the reply Randy! I always appreciate your insights. My anemone is pale pink and light brown striped. The LFS had some burnt orange ones as well, very attractive!
