koran angel
Does anyone have a Koran angel in their tank. I read that adult koran angel are rarely seen in captivity. Why is that? I have a 120 G tank with 2 anemones and some feather dusters. Would the angel eat these? I read that the maximum size is 14 inches but how fast do they grow. The one in the LFS is 2 inches.
Thanks Karun |

I have had a Koran for about a year and a 1/2. It has grown from about the size of a quarter (I got it tiny for a great price ~$14), now it is about 4-5 inches long (it has not begun to change). It has just recently become very vicious to other fish in the tank. I have a Naso that is about the same size and he even goes after him. He also goes after all other fish leaving marks occasionally but nothing serious. Adding new fish has become problematic because if the fish doesn’t acclimate quickly it will be tormented to death.
On the other hand I have an Anemone with a maroon clown that the Koran doesn’t go near. I also have Green Star Polyps that the Koran doesn’t touch. I have also never had a problem with cleaner shrimp, hermit crabs, emerald crabs, or snails. Don’t know what to say about the feather duster. I have dozens of tiny ones that the Koran would probably eat if he could get at.

You dont see many Korans in captivity because most dont have the tanks to keep them, a fish that gets 15"+ requires a large tank. They usually wont bother many inverts, most angles feed on sponge in the wild, but Im not sure about the feather duster. Angels are always 50/50 on eating certain things...HTH
