Question Orange tree finger sponge..is this bad?

I've had an orange tree finger sponge for a few months now (thanks to Rocky ) Anyway, it's been fine and dandy until this little bout with red slime algae. It seems some red slime algae got onto a section of it. As soon as I saw it I attempted to remove it by blowing water against it. Then I tried to manually remove. It's tough, let me tell you. Yesterday I noticed this section above where the red slime is/was, it turning a translucent color. Am I losing it? Is it dying and what can I do, if anything to stop it. This sponge has never been exposed to air as far as I know. TIA

    Smile Hello Sunshine!

Member that thread about red slime, and how i suggested natural methods...macro, w/c's etc etc....and then there where some others that had posted saying they had success with Red Slime removers? Well after seeing quite a few ppl with success....I tried Red Slime Remover....it was like 18bux at the LFS but I am VERY SURPRISED!!! it actually worked! and worked within 36hrs too....and NO side affects, except it made my skimmer go NUTS!....I just unplugged the skimmer for a couple days and then it was fine....and I did a w/c afterwards too...I still have about 5% of the red slime that but it killed the other 95% of it and I think the other 5% is starting to go away on its own.....I used a tad bit less than what they recommended I was skeptical, but now im a believer in it....Maybe you should try it. I recommend cutting off the translucent and algae parts and putting whats left in a tad bit more current....and do it all while submerged in the tank

I forgot to mention, I'm using NoCyano right now. It's totally reef safe but was more expensive. It also takes longer to work though. Does anyone know what is happening to my sponge though? Thanks again Rocky!

Well, I got my answer. I fragged the dead tissue off last night. Hopefully, it will help. Eric Borneman doesn't think these sponges have much of a chance in home aquaria though. Hope this one proves to be the exception.

    P.S. Thanks Rocky.
