southdown play sand in NYC?

hi everyone

i was wondering which home depot in the nyc area carries the southdown sand and also how is it sold by and how much? thank you

Hopefully one of our New York members will provide some up-to-date information on availability for you. Some of the Home Depots may not have it at this time of the year.

What you are looking for is "Southdown Tropical Play Sand from the Caribbean" in 50-lb bags. Make sure it is worded exactly like that. It usually sells for less than $4 per 50-lb bag. There is also an identical product from the same manufacturer (Southdown-CEMEX) that is marketed in 40-lb bags under the label "Yardright Tropical Play Sand from the Caribbean." This is usually not sold in the Home Depots in your area. When buying sand labeled "Yardright," it is very important to make sure ALL of the proper wording is on the bag because they also market multi-purpose play sand under that brand and it is regular silica sand, not aragonite sand like the product that says "tropical play sand from the Caribbean."

small-fish, I'm not sure about any HD's in the city. But if you want to take a ride out to the Island I could check on the HD's out here. They usually have a couple of bags all year round. They get so many pallets in the spring the left overs usually stick around for a while.

do you know specifically which home depot in long island carries the sand? i tried calling several home depots in the city ( Brooklyn, L.I.C., Woodhaven, College Point) and they don't seem to know what I'm talking about or they dont carry it. Woodhaven home depot has the
Southdown Tropical Playsand, but the guy on the phone didnt know if it is from the caribbean.
does anyone know the sku #?? thanks

I was talking a little further out on the island

like Patchouge, Setauket. I think rmacys on reefs.org posted yesterday that he just bought 5 bags from the HD in Northport. The Southdown Tropical Playsand is the stuff you want. It will be in the garden center i.e. outside. It is a clear bag with red and blue writing/drawing on it.

I've got 6 bags of Southdown left after doing a swap a couple months ago. I live in Manhattan - 17th street 8th avenue if interested.

woo-hoo
good news. went to the home depot in brooklyn and found some southdown play sand. they have about half a pallet left, outdoors in the garden section hiding in a corner. go and get them while u can.
