I think I am getting obsessed

with the tank. I have started sleeping on the couch so I can be near the tank just in case something happens. I even set my alarm to wake me up a few times during the night so I can check on the tank. My water paramaters are perfect so I don't worry about that. What I worry about is the protein skimmer could leak and if it did over half the water could leak out. Killing many corals. And the e-heim pipe goes all the way to the bottom of the tank so it the e-heim leiked it could leak most of the water out killing 50 or so corals. I don't worry about the fish because I have chosen small fish that would still be in water. I have been waking up excausted from getting up so much during the night to check on the tank. I also have 6 clams and I noticed some of the paramid snails on them. I scrubbed them off and picked off all I seen. I haven't seen any of the snails in 2 weeks so I am hoping I got them all. But I still have to get up and check them. i know this is to the point of obsession. Does anyone else feel this way? Its not just that the corals cost so much either. that is part of it, but I I have put 5 yrs of my life into this hobby and I love it.

Obsessions in themselves are not necessarily harmful, unless they begin to cause distress in your life.

Many people enjoy their obsessions: working, collecting art, racing cars, raising corals. But when the obsessions cause guilt, physical symptoms, financial distress, family conflicts or anxiety, then they become problematic.

Only you know if your hobby reflects an obsessive-compulsive disorder. There are medications and counseling techniques that can help. Rarely does OCD suddenly manifest itself with no previous obsessive tendencies in the past.

All of us have worried about our animals, gotten up during the night to look at "water bugs," and generally have caused our significant others to question our mental health. However, when the behaviors cross over and cause pain, a problem exists.

Time to see a shrink The moon could fall out of the sky and land on your head but I don't think its going to happen. If you feel your setup has flaws then they should be addressed and fixed. Wet carpet is not fun.

Thanks guys

I have never been an obsessive person about anything before in the past. And I have never had anything leak in the tank. In the past I had 2 55 gals and a 70 gal. A yr ago I decided to break them down and combine everything into a 125 and get rid of the bigger fish. So the 125 setup is only about a yr old and I still don't completely trust everything. I have heard other people talk about how rapidly their corals started dieing and one after another died. Maybe that is the problem. Maybe I read too much and I am getting paranoid that my tank will crash too.

Yes

I am talking about the skimmer I bought from you. There isn't any problem with it. I am just being paranoid. I keep reading about peoples pumps and powerheads that stop working and fowl the whole tank up. My main concern is the e-heim leaking and the tube to it goes all the way to the bottom of the tank. I have used this e-heim for almost 5 yrs and it has never leaked before. I just think I am reading too many negative post and I think if that could happen to so many other people it could happen to me. As I said my water parameters are near perfect. Nitrates are undectecable, no nitrites no ammonia. Ph stays at 8.2. Calcium stays between 400 and 450. alkility was 3.5 The only thing I am trying to get rid of is .25 of phosphates. But I know how I am getting the phosphates. My RO unit is leaching them in. I need to get another RO with the DI or get a DI unit seperately and add it to the RO I already have.

Hi Ronda,

>>I am talking about the skimmer I bought from you.

aha! Rocky, what did you sell her?? j/k

>>I keep reading about peoples pumps and powerheads that stop working and fowl the whole tank up.

you must be talking about not UL listed Rio pumps...I would worry if I had one...which I don't.

>>My main concern is the e-heim leaking and the tube to it goes all the way to the bottom of the tank.

easy solution, get a valve and connect it

>>I have used this e-heim for almost 5 yrs and it has never leaked before.

Eheim pumps are very good, one of mine is an Eheim too (German), I wouldn't worry.

>> I just think I am reading too many negative post and I think if that could happen to so many other people it could happen to me.

Relax and kick back! just don't kick to close to the tank, you know how this things go...
