Is it calcified and hard or soft and pliable?
It looks to me like some sort of Finger Leather coral (Lobophytum species.) I think as it gets healthier, you'll see many more polyps. |

Hi 7thheaven!
I believe that is correct. The polyps will extend as it gets good nutrition and high quality water, with many more polyps appearing, soon to cover the whole coral.
By the way, welcome to Reefland. |

YUP that's it, a Devil's hand!! I have one, it was my first coral, I have had it for almost 5 years, they are very easy to care for and look great when all the polyps are out!!

I second the Devils Hand opinion. It too was my first coral and is very easy to care for, dont be alarmed one day when you notice it looks like something is eating away at it and a piece is going to fall off, thats how it propogates itself. just watch for the piece to fall off or just before it does and you have a tiny peice of skin holding it to the mother colony pull it of and attach it to another rock and walla you have a frag to sell back to your lfs...hth
