Help!!! Worms!!
Some help me. 40 gallon with 40 lbs LR. Recently little worms have been popping up. Now there are hundreds of them. They are up to i inch long, very thin. All are black with pink ends. It appears there may be a "mouth" end. They are on the LS and glass. There is also tiny white spirals on the glass. (dont know if it is related) What is going on? Anyone please? Thanks

The worms are more than likely Bristle Worms....they are great for your tank, as they clean up "junk", and the spirals i think are probably snail eggs, which is also great.....means that your tank is getting healthy enough for reproduction of the snails....some pics sure would help but im sure there is nothing to worry bout...just like Ice said  Chris if you want to have some fun and see alot of stuff just get a flashlight an hour or two after you turn your lights off on the tank then look into the tank with the flashlight and you will probably see all kinds of critters have fun!

Just a small suggestion - when I do this, I use a flashlight with a red lense on it. I don't know if they can't sense it or they just don't mind it since it isn't that bright. I would never have imagined I had all those critters in there!

Don't believe those other guys!
I'd recommend that you capture all of the awful worms and bugs, then carefully package and ship them to me so that I can dispose of them properly!

Reinhold - I'll do that. Just because you seem like a nice guy, I'm gonna include a real neat shrimp. He makes a pretty cool clicking sound at night. It helps me go to sleep at night, but I'll let you have him. He's a pretty good sized one too!

hey chris I have the same problem let me know if you find anything out. I have hundreds of the white spirals all over my tank.

The spirals are probably spirorbid worms. Some wrasses might make a snack out of them, but those species will also generally eat any other worms and sometimes cnidarians. The best way to deal with them IMO is just scrape them off when you clean your glass and not let them bother you.

Chances are they won't be looking at this thread any more...it was started in 2001, when they were still digging out the trade centers.
