Unhappy Name this DISC, Please

Greetings, need some help or at least reassurance from YOU or anyone in the know. And I know, you know or know someone who knows. I'm hoping.

My 125 gallon has been setup for 2 months and so far has been doing O.K. Test levels are good and fish and inverts seem to be doing well. Trying to be patient and slowly intro corals in the next couple of months.

SO… what's the problem??? I'm sure this is going to be an obvious answer to anyone with ANY reefer experience, so let me have it!

I've got lots of little [1/32-1/64] white round disc looking things all over the tank glass. They have a pattern like one of these, [@] but much smaller.

I looked at these under a magnifying glass and they look like concentric circle's having a spiral pattern and appear to have transparent hair-like filaments. Those aren't visible with naked eyes, at least my naked eyes.

What are these? Are they harmful? They are hard to scrape off of the glass.

Thanks, for your hepl. I knew you would know.

Regards,

Your rookie reefer

Taz

Hello Tman;
I have those too. They are on my power heads, back glass. They appear to be some kind of fan worm/ feather duster type critter( I'm sure someone else can elaborate on the taxonomy). They don't seem to do any harm. As a matter of fact I think they are kind of cool, they lend to the natural "wild kingdom" look that I like.

I have read in other posts that they are sign of good water quality, but I don't know this for sure.

I scrape them off the front and side glass with a plastic putty knife.

yes they are fan worms, serpulid polychaetes to be more specific.i wouldnt neccesarily call them a good indicator of water quality ,but they are a good sign of a diverse/maturing system.

DISC Name

Greetings:

Thanks for the feedback!

Guess I got too excited. Sounds like there suppose to be there or at the least, won't do harm.

I've seen quite a few mature reef tanks and either never saw them or never paid any attention. Probably too busy oogling over corals and fish.

Thanks again.
