I placed a Finger Leather in the tank last week. It looked like it was on its last legs (stump, stalk??) but it seems to be thriving now.

Nice pic! We have one that looks just like yours. Easy to care for, like most leathers, it'll slime every so often. Ours is midway down the tank, likes moderate flow, and managed to survive a weird disintigrating infection (after some drastic fragging, I might add). Pretty hardy, and easy to frag.
