Check out my new tank!

Well, after a few long weeks I have finished upgrading my 1.5 year old 26 reef to a 63.

I custome built the canopy to house 4 55 watt PC's, but I built it tall enough to add MH's around the holidays!

Here's some pictures . . .

My old tank - A little full!

My new tank, frame of custom canopy

Close-up of back of custome hood hinge

My living room was a mess for a while!

After I added 150 lbs of Southdown. Took 3 full days to even remotely clear. (Thanks to Golfish for loaning me a canister to speed up the process! God knows how long it would have taken without it.

Closeup look of my custom canopy. 2 4" fans blowing in, 1 blowing out. Purchased fans for $12 at Fry's electronic, and spliced the wires to a $6.99 transformer. Works like a champ.

Tank is slowly starting to clear. Notice my corals in the yellow bucket by the front door!

Closeup of the dust covers for the 2 intake fans. ($2.99 each and well worth it. I think it gives the canopy a much more professional look.

The final product

Sorry for all the pictures but I'm so glad it's done.

Thanks for the advice. I will relocate the softies to the non extreme areas when they go in, and I'm going to start at 30 minutes of halide light per day, and raise it 30 minutes every couple of days until I get to a full 9 hours. Hopefully my guys will make it.

Good job Brian, I can see your going to have to get rid of all those softies There taking up all the room you need for the SPS

Lets not forget the CLAMS

Very nice job! I enjoy seeing the process of tank set-up, as well as the final result.

I find most people have no clue how labor intense this hobby is.

Hey Dude, I bet Brian has them out by Xmas.......

Shall we say 1 SPS frag.....I mailed one out the other day in a small pee cup. You know the kind you pee in for Doc Martin at the local clinic Cost $3.50 for second day air and arrived in great condition. This is the best thing about SPS corals. Its so cheap and easy to trade em.

Everybody is a critic!!!

We'll have to see how things go when the halides go in. Some might go, but I have one leather that I can't get rid of. It was the first coral I ever bought, and I got attached to it!

Glad to see my tank is the object of betting.

Mark - I think I can take the filter off now. I'm going to Jeff's on Saturday. You want to meet? Otherwise I can give it to you when it is convienent for you.

I understand completely...I have 3 different toadstools....they each look different....but they are all frags off the same mother colony but each of them were in different environments...kinda a study I have been performing....but if you do get bitten by the SPS bug then you will look at every inch of your tank as expensive real estate...and softies will eventually be a thing of the past....The one thing I DO like about softies is the swaying motion...I.E. Xenias, Star polyps, Yellow polyps, etc etc...but alot of the softies also grow VERY fast and will take up too much room too fast....Im learning to actually replace some softies with LPS...for example...my hammer and xenia where competing for space...Guess which one i got rid of Xenia!! I still like softies but im more intrigued by SPS! they seem to throw out a wider array of colors too.

Brian,
What time? If I can drag my @$$ out of bed by noon, I'll try to get down there by 1pm. Ermin's going to let me have pick and clip party at 3pm (he's got some nice SPS) so I can't miss that

1 pm works great for me. I'll meet you there.

Not sure if you were planning on it but don't bring me any SPS frags yet. I think I should wait till the MH's go in around x-mas. By then my tank should be more stable, and hopefully some of those awesome colors will hold. (Like that great green one!)

Thanks again Mark.

Man, I sure wish some of you guys lived in the Phoenix area. I would love to go to a pick & clip party. I've been itching to start trading with you people, or just outright buy some small frags to get my reef going.

Any of you kids in SoCal have some frags you are going to be getting rid of (softies mainly)?

I figure shipping won't be as bad between CA and AZ.
