leather coral floping over

I have a leather coral(not sure which type) in my tank for about 3 months. I got it attached to some rocks and placed it on top of other rocks so that it would get more light. Seemed to be doing well but has started floping to one side in the last few days. I checked the water parameters are okay. Did a 10% water change yesterday. The colour has changed from a brown to a bright yellow over the last 3 months. I assumed that was because of the change in lighting. Polyps are extended.
Why has it started floping over? What should I do? Should I move it onto the substrate and bury it slightly?

leathers dont like bright lighting. i have a 400 and i killed my leather. i had it all the way away from the light that i could and it still croaked. id say lower it alittle.

Try a little more current...I have a finger leather that will do that.

If it's a toadstool check the base of the coral for problems.

BigA is right. They need alot of current, but not alot of light. I've been growing this guy since he was a lil'pup [img]/ubb/smile.gif[/img]

Great looking picture. My coral looked a lot like that bu has shrunk. I have moved it to a area with higher circulation and lower light. I was running a metal halide for 10 hours a day, now I have reduce it to 8 hours. I may reduce the time further after a few days.
Reef maniac, what do you feed your coral and how often?
Big A you mentioned check the base for problems-- What do I look for?

We have a large yellow leather, and have found that when it is disturbed, it becomes one grumpy coral. Anytime we move it, and especially after our fragging/reattaching attempts, it refuses to open for several days, "flops over," loses the bright yellow color, and generally acts upset. After about 3 days it goes back to normal. (First expansion, then polyps, and finally the color returns) This specimen is pretty much at the top of our 90, and seems to like the light. Moving it further only seems to upset ours. I would just wait and see (unless there is something obviously wrong- necrosis, etc.)

Just to bring up my earlier question. What do you feed your leather coral and how often?

I have a couple of leathers that i bought that looked less than desireable. I helped them back to health by in my opinion using zoe, and a coral food mix(something soupy that the polyps can filter out of the h2o). I have also been feeding dt's live phytoplankton, but now ? whether it realy does any good. Also if the coral is slimy try some more flow till the sliming is over and then back to lo-moderate current.The changin of colors might be that he is trying to (shed ) the old skin. My yellow sarcophyton goes to a brown while shedding. Anyways try some things and see which works best.
