Looking for Ideas on mounting cooling fans

I'm in the process of designing a new DIY canopy for my 55g to hold a 250w MH and 2 VHO actinics (so I anticipate lots of heat), and wondered if anybody had some unique ideas (and especially photos) on how to mount cooling fans. I have the 4" IceCap multi-speed fans, and want to mount a fan on either side of the canopy - one blowing in and one blowing out.

I just did the exact same thing about a week ago. All I really did was cut two 4 " diameter circles out of each end of the canopy, then bolted a fan to the inside of each hole using 1 3/4" wood screws (The fans were 1.5" thick).

So do you have the IceCap fans? I only ask because mine have a separate guard plate, and came with two long bolts. So I thought that I would do what you did, and drill a 4" diameter hole, which would match the diameter of the fan, then drill holes for the bolts to connect the fan to the inside of the hood and the guard to the outside.

Burt,
That's pretty much the way its done. I would mount the lights first then find a good spot to drill the holes so you get good air flow.

Burt,
We mounted our icecaps on the back of the canopy. 1 in 1 out but we also spliced in 2 3inch fans to the ice caps. We have 2-250 watt mh on a 65 breeder with 2 55 watt pc so we had to add the extra fans. Temp hangs around 81-84 degrees with all the lights on. The air isn't running becuase its not hot enough, so we are also dealing with termps around 80 degrees in the room it is in. Good luck!!!!!!
