Xenia retracting
How much should my Xenia be retracting at the end of the day? I keep my lights on for about 10-12 hours a day, and toward the end of the day, before the lights go out, it retracts quite a bit. Is this normal, or a sign that something's amiss?

Mine does the same thing, not always, but most days towards the end of the day it begins to "shut down" as I put it. Slowly draws itself in, the "hands" are still out but sometimes will close on themselves. Sometimes it will close all the way, but most times it just does until the "arms" are about 1" or so but the main stalks stay pretty big.
Mine is also a waving Xenia, with very long stalks and arms. Also some of my mushrooms also kind of close down at the end of the day. I think it has alot to do with natural biology, they are expecting the sun to be going down as it would be in nature or with natural timed lighting. Most of us run our tanks like it is noon all day long. It would be more amiss if you werent seeing any new growth, it starts losing "hands", or it does open during the day. |
