I have a dark red macroalgae spreading all over my rocks. It looks like very fine red grass, and spreads by runners on the rocks, as well as releasing "balls" of the red "grass" all over. I was reading in Aquarium Fish magazine that Rabbitfish will eat fleshy red macroalgae. Has anyone had experience with Rabbitfish and what algae they will eat? Also, what kind of Rabbitfish is best?

The most common "rabbit fish" used as an herbivor in the aquarium is the Foxface Rabbitfish Siganus vulpinus.
I have one, and it eats everything but hair algae. Of course, it goes on an individual basis, but I think its a relatively safe bet. Its also non-agressive, and hardy once established. -Perry ------------------ Some call it evolution, And others call it God. Each In His Own Tongue (1908) William Herbert Carruth 1859-1924 |
