Corraline ?
I look at everyones tank and the glass has Purple corraline all over it, on the powerheads and so on. My tank is (besides moving it ) about 4 years old. I have deep purple corraline on all rocks, corals bases, some sand, amn even my snails and hermits are purple. But not one scrape on the glass front or back, whats up with that. Corraline resistant plexi.

have you been making youre daily sacrifice to the coralline gods? dont tell me youve been stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk on youre way to the fish store, that alone will shutdown all coralline growth on the glass for at least a month.try feeding youre dog at a different time ,that might do the trick for ya. |

I found that washing my hands with Dove instead of Zest covered my glass with coraline
Seriously, I cant help. My newest tank is less then a year old and it's covered with coraline. I only ad calk like every 6 or 7 days and haven't done a WC in over 2 months, but the tank is thriving and happy. Even my wifes tank (now my tank) is growing coraline under a 15 watt day light. All I can tell ya is that I dont run a filter or carbon and I skim 24/7. I feed the fish once a day. PH is around 8.0, S.P. around 25 and temp is 80 - 84. Lighting is 2 10k 110 watt vho and one 115 vho actinic. for about 12 hours a day. I've got coraline growing on the power cords from the pumps and heaters... FWIW ![]()

I soak my hands in fish urea, squid, shrimp, zoe, selco, DT's, min. 4" sb, 5lbs LR, a min. of 2 cleaner shrimps, and let the coralline grow on my hands then I soak them in my tank for a minimum of an hour and scrape off the coralline....
j/kSorry Firefish i know you where serious and that may be true it was a bit funny though too :POn a serious note i think that an Anti Bacterial (soft liquid) soap rinsed off real well in very warm water (the hotter the better) will do just fine some soaps may be better than others I pretty much wash up to my shoulders if I have to put something on the bottom! I have thought about buying them long rubber gloves but I can only see them getting in my way more than helping. I think if you can get some scrapings of coralline from an existing fish store (got mine for like $2 for alot!) then mix it in some of your tank water in a blender, then slowly introduced it into tank w/all PHs and Pumps off for about 20 min then slowly turn them back on....if your PH alk and CA are up to par and you dont have prob algaes then you should get a boost even on your glass....but you cant clean the area where you want to grow the coralline and make sure that area is clean before you introduce the coralline seed kit....There are many places that sell coralline booster frag kits like www.ipsf.com and www.garf.org but all it is some coralline on a rock, Whereas a few sheets of PURE coralline scrapped off the back of someones tank will definately jump start your coralline growth alot more than a coralline seed kit

The rocks snails coral sketons are all covered in corraline. If I put a clean rock in its covered with in a month. it grow everywhere really fast but not one scrap on the glass front, back or sides. I have a monster ca reactor that keep akl an Ca perfect. all perameters are always dead on. its just weard.

I'm in the same boat. One of my tanks has coraline all over everything but the acrylic. I'm not concerned, however I'm curious too as to why that is too. I'm glad that I don't have to scrape that tank though. Its one of my favorite tanks and does well w/ little maintance.
Someone knows.... thx Tom |

Gosh, I wish I had the same problem....mine is that the stuff grows all over the glass. I don't mind so much on the back and sides, but the front is a pain. I have to scrap once a week without fail or I can't see in the tank!
And it's not only the pink coralline, but the purple and green too....looks very strange to say the least. |
